small plates for a nigerian supper club
hand built, glazed stoneware
d10-20cm
Responding to the lack of diversity in crockery to match the variety of cultural foods that are consumed in the UK, and the decline of ceramic production in West Africa, these plates are made using simple, sustainable techniques, for example using found containers as templates. The palette takes inspiration from Nigerian modernist painters Ben Enwonwu (1917-1994) and Erhabor Emokpae (1925-1984), and Nigeria's most celebrated potter, Ladi Kwali (1925-1984)
